University of Maryland Graduation Photography

It has been a pleasure these past 3 years photographing new graduates at the University of Maryland College Park. What started out as favors and practice with friends has turned into my favorite part of spring! Each year I get to meet a new group of graduates excited for the next steps following their (hopefully) amazing time at UMD.
I completed both my bachelors ('23) and masters degrees ('24) here at the University of Maryland, and my five years living on campus has proved to be invaluable as a graduation photographer. I worked as a photographer for the Diamondback my last two years, spending my free time on campus with my camera, getting to know the best locations and lighting to showcase our campus. It only seemed natural that I took grad photos for my friends.
First of my many graduation shoots and still the most fun I've had with a prop
It started here with my friend Tilly jumping into a freezing cold Mckeldin fountain with her pool floaty right before winter commencement (back when they still did that). That shoot is a prime example of what has become one of the key concepts in my graduation photography: the best photos come when the graduate is at the most genuine. The photos are fun, feel like them, and are a keepsake to look back on fondly.
As a photographer my job is to help the graduate get the photos that they want. While many graduation photographers end up solely walking around Mckeldin mall for those picturesque campus views, my favorite shoots happen where the graduate actually spent time on campus. I love Mckeldin, but as any student knows, there's a lot more to campus than just the mall. I personally spent my time at Iribe, Eppley, SPH, Hornbake, and Prince Frederick. I always encourage showing off the personality and originality in my clients. I've taken photos ranging from the freshman dorm where it all started, the field hockey stadium where they won a big ten championship, or the college park staple: Bents.
I'm excited for another upcoming graduation season. Its always a pleasure talking to the graduates, hearing about their time on campus, their studies, and what new place on campus they might show me!
